Foster positive relationships at all ages and stages
Saturday Express, Blenheim Marlborough, General News, 04 May 2019

Every term we will publish some ideas from the Kiwi Can programme for seniors who are dealing with school age children, for example as grandparents. What they are learning may also be worth practising in our own older lives. The following is what over 50 per cent of Marlborough’s children have been learning at school. The Kiwi Can programme started the year focusing on ‘‘Positive Relationships’’. The children learnt how positive relationships are about ‘‘working and playing in safe and thoughtful ways with others’’. The positive relationships
theme centred around fairness and fair play, conflict resolution, leadership, and role modelling. They learnt to recognise where conflict is likely to occur, and strategies to resolve conflict. They also practised being good role models as leaders. These important values of positive relationships and respect, and the skills of conflict resolution and effective communication help shape our communities of the future.
