Career Navigator pupils from Southland Boys’ High School, alongside Environment Southland staff and Sanford employees, completed a rubbish collection at Greenpoint Domain, near Bluff, at the end of last month.
Career Navigator co-ordinator Ramari Paul said community projects provided rangatahi (children) with opportunities to give back to the community and understand the value of their contributions.
“It was awesome to see the students idea come to life and their engagement in the project.”
Environment Southland land sustainability officer Alex Loimaranta led the collection on the day, with rubbish collected being methodically sorted, recorded and the data uploaded to the Litter Intelligence database.
The Career Navigator programme supports secondary school pupils to develop a purposeful pathway for their future using a combination of activity-based learning sessions, mentoring and site visits.
