Taking the Leap! ITW’s James Murray Reflects on Drop Your Boss 2025

Drop Your Boss is back for 2026, bringing business leaders together to step outside their comfort zones and support young people across Aotearoa.

Last year, James Murray from ITW took the 192-metre leap off Auckland’s Sky Tower to raise funds for the Graeme Dingle Foundation. While ITW was already a supporter of the Graeme Dingle Foundation, James says taking part gave him a much stronger connection to the work being done.

“I had heard about this event over the last year or two whilst working at ITW and definitely had a couple of laughs at the thought of doing it, however, never did I see myself partaking in it!”

After learning more about ITW’s relationship with the Foundation and the impact its programmes have for young people across New Zealand, a few conversations were enough to convince him.

“After understanding our relationship with the Graeme Dingle Foundation and the work they do throughout New Zealand helping young people, and after a few more conversations, my arm got twisted!”

For James, one of the biggest benefits was getting closer to the cause.

“Being part of this opened my eyes up to the great work the Graeme Dingle Foundation is doing across NZ. I got to meet several members of the team, have some great conversations, attend events, and ultimately feel a part of it.”

The experience also created conversations across ITW, with support coming from colleagues throughout New Zealand and Australia.

“I certainly had a few extra people within ITW asking more about the event itself and the why. But the support from ITW itself and our team throughout NZ and Australia were behind me, which felt even better when I took the leap.”

So, what would James say to another business leader thinking about taking part?

“Do it. The team at the Graeme Dingle Foundation are easy to work with, the experience that you get from being involved in it is a story you can tell for the rest of your life, not to mention you get a few cool photos of yourself before the leap with a nervous smile!”
