Recently, a group of students from Southland Boys’ High School took part in an exciting worksite visit to South Port as part of our Career Navigator programme. South Port is a generous sponsor of the Graeme Dingle Foundation, and a major employer of young people in Southland.
The students had a great time seeing the port in action. They were given the chance to take a tour and to learn more about the different roles and responsibilities that come with a job in the maritime industry.
They also had the opportunity to talk to the port’s staff and ask questions about their career path, as well as hear from South Port’s Warren Topi, who shared his story of working in the maritime industry. Warren, affectionately known as ‘Ratbag,’ was also this year’s number one fundraiser in our Drop For Youth event raising $6500.
Career Navigator offers students insight into the various career paths available to them, and this worksite visit, hosted by South Port is one of two the students have been a part of.
